It was only yesterday that PM Narendra Modi surprised opposition parties with his seaplane journey during Gujarat poll campaign. Today, PM Modi has come up with a bigger surprise as he commissioned the Ins Kalvari submarine, which is expected to play a pivotal role in boosting the confidence of India’s defense. PM Modi looked very happy and proud as he remarked, “We are beginning a new journey with the commissioning of INS Kalvari. May sea gods keep you strong and safe.” Incidentally, this Scorpene-class submarine is named Kalvari, which means tiger shark, a deadly deep-sea predator.
PM Modi discussed in details regarding India’s security in changing circumstances, saying,”India’s humanitarian approach to diplomacy and national security is something that makes us special in the world. A safe India is good not just for us, but for the whole of humanity. Our government’s slogan ‘sabka saath sabka vikas’ holds goods for such development by land, sea, and air. Whether its terrorists coming via ocean, whether it’s piracy on the high seas or illegal fishing, India is playing a big role in combatting these challenges.”
There is no denying the fact that inclusion of INS Kalvari definitely makes the subcontinental naval power equation an interesting one. The submarine is expected to play a crucial role in India’s security and indeed instability for the region and the world at large. Certainly giving more priority to India’s products is paying huge dividends for Indian defence as well.
Incidentally, Kalvari is the first of the six Scorpene-class submarines and was handed over by shipbuilder Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL). Today it has been commissioned into the Navy by the PM in Mumbai. INS Kolvari boasts of superior stealth features such as advanced acoustic silencing techniques, low radiated noise levels, hydro-dynamically optimised shape. Side by side, it is well equipped to launch a crippling attack on the enemy using precision-guided weapons.
