Rahul Gandhi’s Coronation As Congress President Is ‘Confirmed’

After Tripuri session when Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose resigned in spite of being elected as Congress President, an internal election within the Congress Party has become a farce. For the last two decades, after Sitaram Keshari’s short stint in PV Narasimha Rao’s time, Sonia Gandhi has remained all in all within the Congress hierarchy.

No doubt, Congress faithful has played the second fiddle to Gandhi legacy and there is no confusion that an ailing Sonia Gandhi has finally decided to transfer the party responsibility to forever evergreen leader Rahul Gandhi. The transfer was imminent ever since Sonia Gandhi has become vulnerable to a disease for which she to travel abroad for further treatment. Although some sections of the Congress wanted Priyanka Gandhi to come forward, Rahul Gandhi is the ‘chosen’ one for Congress to succeed his mother on December 4.

Nevertheless, Sonia Gandhi and her trusted lieutenants have done the requisite work so that the 47-year-old Rahul Gandhi becomes the President of the Congress Party ‘unopposed’.Although election date is scheduled to be on, it goes without any saying that Rahul Gandhi will be announced as the President of the Congress Party on December 19. The Gujarat Assembly Election is going to be an acid test on Rahul Gandhi’s leadership skills. Who knows! December 4th can be a pivotal day for Indian National Congress.

As Party veterans like Pranab Mukherjee, Manmohan Singh and others have been categorically sidelined, it would be a huge task for Rahul Gandhi to reinstate the hope of Congress. The Congress top brass is also looking forward to young blood and having Rahul Gandhi at the helm of affairs can be the best step forward.
