Is ‘Secularism’ The Biggest Lie In Indian Politics?

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has been in the news again and this time around, he is back with the secularism rhetoric, bringing the much-debated issue. In a programme in Chhatisgarh capital Raipur, Yogi Adityanath discussed communalism and secularism candidly. He remarked,”I feel the word secularism is the biggest lie in India post-independence. Those who have given birth to and used the word repeatedly should apologise to the people of India. There is no word like secularism. I have to look after 22 crore people of UP. I am answerable for their security and for respecting their sentiments. But I am not here to appease any particular community or caste.”

No doubt, UP Cm Yogi Adityanath’s remark takes an indirect jibe at the Congress Party who have been frequently accused of minority appeasement. Yogi Adityanath also referred that under PM Narendra Modi, India is living in Ram Rajya. His clearcut approach is directed against Congress, which can certainly have deeper consequences invariably before the upcoming Gujarat Assembly Elections.

No doubt, what Yogi Adityanath has said regarding communalism and secularism has been echoed by average Indians. Afterall, electoral politics has ushered in the brand of appeasement politics and minority appeasement has become a party agenda for parties like Congress and other pseudo left-liberal parties.
