Every aspect of human life has at least some unconfirmed Myths related to it. Here are 4 myths about body during Midlife that you will hear the most often. What is your opinion about them?
Menopause is Hell
Who hasn’t heard that giving birth is horrible, excruciatingly painful and difficult thing to do? Yet, women repeatedly give birth, even after going through that process. The truth is, we are mostly interested in the problems and complications and we put effort and attention to understanding them, whilst ignoring the positive experiences, even if they are the majority. Menopause is one of those things. We only associate it with its negative symptoms which, seem to be universal. However even in the 1990s study of 500 women who were passing menopause by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, looked into both their psychological and physical changes and the conclusion is that most women “do well during menopause” despite some of the common symptoms such as hot flashes, and that only around 10% experience tough time, mainly psychologically.
Your Brain Cells are Just Dying
The long held belief that no new Brain Cells are generated after a certain age and that it is all downhill in midlife does no longer hold ground. In the past two decade a lot of new discoveries have been made about how our brains work and the fact that we do generate new brain cells all our lives. This article has a very good summary if you want to know more, but the bottom line is – do not worry, there is still growth to happen in your life.
You can reverse aging by using a product
Just one look at any magazine or television is enough to see how modern world revolves around the idea of prolonged youth as something to strive for. Anti ageing, whether it is cosmetics, cosmetic surgery or other types of “help” is a multi billion dollar industry fueled by the desire to stop and reverse aging. And while some of the products currently available can improve our looks and overall health, the elixir for eternal youth is still beyond our reach.
There is a magic elixir that will prevent you from losing your hair
And it’s a secret, but you are allowed to know it. I am sure you have heard this one at least once. Anyone who invents a product that would permanently stop male hair loss would instantly become insanely rich, and, since nobody actually has, it’s safe to assume that there is no such solution, yet. Maybe there will be, but at the moment we have to look for solutions elsewhere (hair replacement, acceptance, incorporating hats in the wardrobe etc.).
Those are only 4 myths, which ones would you add to this list?
