After months of speculation, it’s official that Netflix has ordered a stand-alone Punisher Series.
According to a new report from Entertainment Weekly Netflix has decided to move ahead with a Punisher series. Jon Bernthal, who portrayed the vigilante in the second seasons of Daredevil, will be taking up the role when the series launches.

Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) has been named as the showrunner for the new series.
As to when we could potentially see the series hit Netflix, that is up in the air. Currently we know that Luke Cage will launch this Sept., followed by Iron Fist potentially in the spring since it is currently filming. After that we will see The Defenders cross-over event and a second season of Jessica Jones is in there somewhere as well. Unless Netflix increases the release frequency of these series, we could be looking at fall 2018 for Punisher to take on his series, and that seems excessive.
Clearly this is a good sign for the Marvel/Netflix arrangement, and it makes you wonder what other characters we could eventually show up in this small corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
