The world of Batman in the new DC Cinematic Universe is filling out even more as the new Commissioner Gordon has been chosen.
The Hollywood Reporter reported on Monday that J.K. Simmons has joined the cast of Justice League as Commissioner Gordon. Simmons is known for playing J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man films and he won an Academy Award for the part of Terence Fletcher in Whiplash.
There’s no indication as of yet if Simmons will play Gordon anywhere else in the DCCU, but it seems unlikely you sign him for a one-off appearance. With a lot of talk of Ben Affleck’s Batman getting his own series of films, and Gordon being a pivotal character in that mythos, it seems there could be a lot of work for him in the upcoming years.
Sadly, I imagine this closes the door on him ever playing J. Jonah again, and it’s hard for me to imagine anyone being more perfect for that role.
Justice League Part One begins filming in Aprile and is currently scheduled for a November 17, 2017
