Steven Spielberg seems to still be all for doing a fifth Indiana Jones film.
Let us never forget the horror that is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull…
Although Spielberg has already sent out a casting call for a remake of West Side Story (Why?), The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that the fifth Indiana Jones movie is still very much his next project with plans for it to film in 2019 for a July 10, 2020 release.
Look, I love the first three Indiana Jones movies. The fourth, however, was a trainwreck… or a nuked fridge. It was awful. And with Harrison Ford now 75-years-old, and Shia LaBeouf reportedly not coming back as his son, what is there to do here? As much as I love Ford – and he is supposedly coming back for this film – what can we even remotely believe in what will be required of the character? Will we believe him swinging from a whip? Getting in a fist fight?
No. We won’t.
As much as it pains me to say it, if you really want to do another film of this character, you’re going to have to recast and move on. I would be fine with this so long as the script is good. Yes, I will miss the Harrison Ford of years ago, but that is not the Ford we’ll be getting anyway.
I think it’s time to hang up the fedora and leather coat on this one, folks.
