In a not so shocking twist, it appears that Peter Capaldi may leave Doctor Who along with Steven Moffat.
Following in the footsteps of the news that Steven Moffat is departing Doctor Who comes a new rumor that Capaldi may exit the TARDIS after the 2017 season. The upcoming season next year will mark Capaldi’s third in the role, and also the end of his current contract.
For those that have been following the current series of Doctor Who, all but the first new Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) have stuck around for three seasons, so it makes sense Capaldi may be taking his final bow. This would also free up new showrunner Chris Chibnall to launch his run on the show with a fresh take on the character.
It’s unclear how much of this news is based on actual sources and just on idle speculation that fits with the trend we’ve seen in this show, but we have some time before we find out. As for me, yeah, I think Capaldi is leaving. Three years seems like a good run for anyone in the role and why not bring in some fresh blood for the new boss.
Doctor Who will only have one new episode this year in the form of the Christmas Special and will then return in 2017 with a full season.
