as everyone is probably aware, ex-england Football player Adam Johnson was sentenced to six years in prison this week for grooming and having sexual activity with a 15 year old girl. there is no denying that johnson deserved that sentence, and if i had my way, i'd definitely lump a few more years on that. what shocks me is that there are still people defending him, either out of admiration for his football career or because they do not believe that he is guilty of the crimes he has been convicted of. whether you are a famous footballer or just a normal member of society, you are expected to follow certain rules. if people think they are above these rules, then a society cannot function in a civilised way and people will get hurt. johnson's case is a classic example of someone abusing their celebrity status and power to get what they want. it happens all the time. whether it is famous youtubers like sam pepper or influential figures like jimmy saville, where people think they are simply above the law because they have 'fans'. well, NEWSFLASH, having a million followers on twitter doesn't make you untouchable and you still have to follow the same laws that we do.

there are so many people on social media blaming the victim, which honestly makes me so angry! i saw a girl calling the victim a 'sket' which made me want to throw something. how dare you? the victim is 15 years old, which makes her a minor. that means that even if she gave her consent, it is still illegal to have sexual activity with her. adam johnson fully knew that what he was doing was wrong but he went through with it anyway because he thought he was above the law. the victim has been through enough without other teenage girls on twitter blaming her. blame the convicted criminal not the victim! how will we ever end the issue of sexual abuse if we just blame the victims and say it's their fault?

i have also seen people complaining that johnson's sentence is too harsh, when oscar pistorious got less for killing his girlfriend. firstly, the crimes are completely different so you can hardly compare them but secondly, the uk justice system is very different to the south african justice system. campaign to lengthen pistorious' sentence, not reduce johnson's. the fact that pistorious basically got away with killing his gilfriend reeva steenkemp, in my opinion, does not make johnson's crime any less serious. i think johnson's sentence is very deserved and if he gets out and is allowed to play football again, i will go ape shit. he deserves to be treated like any other criminal and forced to serve his entire sentence with NO special treatment.

sorry for that rant, i just felt like i need to get it all out of my head. this world makes me very very angry at times. if you read this and have a different opinion, then please let me know in the comments below!
