the grand national

oh dear, it's that time of year again. the Grand National. basically an excuse to abuse animals for the benefit and enjoyment of humans right? pretty much like every other animal event that takes place on a yearly basis. after researching the grand national further, my dislike for it has grown even more, so i thought i'd share it with you. if you are a fan of Horse racing and don't want to change your mind, you may want to click away now!

if you support the grand national but are a lover of horses, then i find that very confusing. since 2011, eleven innocent horses have died in horrific ways. they tend to fall down and get trampled on by other horses, resulting in head traumas and broken limbs. the injuries are usually too severe to be healed, so the poor horse has to be put down. the jockeys do not actually care about the horses they are riding, they just want the horse which will get them the fastest time so they get the most money. if they have to replace a horse due to its injuries or old age, they don't really care. if you think that humans are the only creatures to use steroids and other performance enhancing drugs then you are wrong. horses have their food laced with drugs to encourage them to run faster and also to numb any potential pain they might feel.

if the horses become too 'slow' and are not meeting their targets, they are sent to slaughter houses where they are usually turned into dog food or something similar. the people that run events like the grand national do not care about the well being of the animals at all. horses are forced to race when they are barely more than babies. their bones are not fully developed, so injuries are much more likely. horses are also whipped to the finish line, which is just blatant animal abuse. if you went around whipping your dog in public when out on a walk, you would get arrested. so why is it any different for a horse? i guess money plays a large part. that's usually what most people care about! you can try and convince yourself you love horses, but if you are putting them through that amount of horrific treatment, then your so called 'love' is slightly dubious.

just stop abusing animals for your enjoyment or benefit!! it's so so wrong. if you support the grand national, i hope a horse accidentally runs into you :))))) (karma is a wonderful thing)
