Time waits for no man, except Colonel Mustard, it would seem.
Hasbro, the manufacturers of Cluedo, the murder mystery game invented by Anthony E Pratt, have announced a revamp of the main characters. Gone is Mrs White, the housekeeper of the mansion owned by Dr Black, to be replaced by Dr Orchid who was privately educated in Switzerland until her expulsion following a near fatal daffodil poisoning incident. I can’t help feeling that the hand of political correctness is at work here.
The other suspects, Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs Peacock and the Reverend Green have all had their characters updated in recent years. Only Colonel Mustard remains as he was, although he is described as being “significantly older”.
Mercifully, the murder weapons remain unchanged – candlestick, dagger, lead pipe, revolver, rope and spanner.
What ever happened to if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?
