I am not sure when I am going to be in Vanuatu next but if I am I will be sure to visit the village of Paunangisu which boasts the best Public Toilet in the South Pacific. Situated on the opposite side of the island from the capital, Port Vila, it is convenient as a stopping off place for those intrepid tourists doing a round the island trip.
Boasting 5 toilets, two for men, two for women and one for disabled, it is said to be modern, fully equipped and cleaned daily. It is not cheap, though. To spend a penny will cost you 200 vatu, about £1.30, but groups get a 75% discount. So proud of the facility are the locals that they have constructed its own website, bestpublictoilet.org, with the strapline “It’s the place to go when you need to go”.
Monies raised will be used to fund water storage, education and job creation schemes. Wonder if it is fit for a Thai princess?
