I like a ruby and I find the perfect precursor to the main dish – a dhansak usually – is a plate of poppadoms and a bowl of Lime Pickle. But all has not been well amongst the pickle connoisseurs. Recently Indian food producer, Patak’s, changed the recipe of their best-selling pickle, reducing the amount of oil used, adding extra lime but in smaller cubes and more kalonji seeds.
There was an enormous reaction to the change with social meejah a-twitter with outrage, claiming that the changes had made the pickle almost inedible. In a significant victory for the consumer, Patak’s announced this week, via Facebook (natch), that they were reverting to the original recipe.
As they say, if the poppadom is broke, don’t fix the pickle.
