Monday Mottoes – #244

A good dose of self-esteem does wonders. Those who feel that they never measure up, generally don’t. But it can go both ways, either if you think too highly of your abilities, or too low.

Which brings us to the question: how much of achievement and success is Linked to hard work and how much is linked to raw talent? Do talented people always get ahead, or do the prizes in life go to the hard (or smart or enthusiastic) workers?

A great quote from a football coach sums it up:

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” ~Tim Notke

It’s true. To get to where you want to go, you’re going to have to expend some effort. Probably more than some. A whole lot of effort. Are you willing to go the distance? Are you willing to practice your craft each day?

I overheard someone complain recently that their kids had been sunburned and blistered, even though they applied sunscreen. I suggested that they might consider dressing the teens in surfer rash guard shirts which would also help in the future. Then they complained about the shade and how mosquitoes like the shade….

You have to learn how to roll with the punches in life. Make lemonade out of those lemons. Harness the circumstances of life.

Everything in life takes working hard— from health, to relationships, to clients and customers, to a beautiful environment indoors and out.

The rewards are worth it, right? So start working… and your talent will back you up!

Happy Monday, everyone!
