Do you remember that 1980s TV series, “MacGyver”? You know, the young guy who worked for the Phoenix Foundation, helping his country and his friends get out of sticky situations? He often employed ingenious inventions created out of practically nothing as he raced against the clock… or a ticking time bomb….

He reminds me a lot of my husband, Benedetto, not to mention our oldest son. These guys can pull together some disparate parts and make things happen.

I recall the time that Benedetto and I were on a remote island. He took a Jeep to the other side of the mountain and it broke down. With militants in the area, and a broken-down, army-appearing jeep, he had to do something. Oh, did I mention there was no food, as well?

And, of course, no cell phones.

Someone gave him a piece of chewing gum. He ended up taking the Foil wrapper from that and… I don’t know… doing something that involved the spark plugs…. The jeep fired up and he was back before morning.

Now, I came across an online guy making a pot and a cup out of aluminum foil. This could come in handy traveling with a big family. I mean, what if you don’t have a pasta pot with you? It might be useful.

But the guy demonstrating how to use the tin foil was taking forevvvverrrr to construct it. Then I realized that there was a method to his madness. To be done correcttly, these things take time. I mean, you want it to be watertight, right?

It got me to thinking: do I have any MacGyver tricks? Probably the closest would be to string up a bungee cord in order to hang wet laundry in a hotel bathroom, lol….
