I don’t get it. Really, I don’t.
Let me supplement that statement by saying that I have a number of close girlfriends. We laugh, we lunch, we love.
But we certainly don’t share mates or men.
I see the commercials for a proliferation of Sister Wives types of TV shows. Polygamists. Pluralists.
Should I ask: WHY???
You need an extra hand, get a maid, a mother’s helper, a nanny. You need companionship, get a grandma, a girlfriend, a gardener.
But a Sister wife?
No, and double no.
On the one hand, I could see how these types of relationships “work”: there’s not enough time to have major issues, since the man is shuttling back and forth amongst his harem. What little time you have, you make it count. Okaaaay.
On the other hand, it’s degrading. It’s demeaning. And if you say it’s not, that says even more.
First of all, in our country, you can’t be married to more than one mate at a time. So that means that the marriage is a lie. Not a great place to start.
Then you need to lie to neighbors, or teachers, or police. Then the kids need to lie. All so that you can share your man… and pretend he’s your husband, too?
No. No. Really, no. Ladies, this is not love. You deserve better.
