Monday Mottoes – #227

Tags: silence lead bowl

Not one to watch football in general or the NFL in particular, no one can escape the post-game Super Bowl news all over the internet, upstaging the bowl, itself: the 30 seconds of a black screen and total Silence. NBC had a lot of ‘splainin’ to do.

Tons of viewers gave us their own takes: was it a stark statement, an equipment breakdown, or a way to grab attention and Lead into an even more-dramatic commercial?

The network reports it was a breakdown, pure and simple.

But it led many to consider the power of strategic silence, the power of unplugging. Consider the noise and distractions all around us every day. In some cases, a little silence could lead to sobriety, success and soaring into a whole new life back on target. Which leads us to today’s motto:

“I’ve begun to realize that you can listen to silence and learn from it. It has a quality and a dimension all its own.” ~ Chaim Potok, The Chosen

Consider taking a break from the incessant chatter all around you: extraneous phone calls, text messages, constant music or TV in the background, surfing the net…. What about YOU? Somehow you can become lost in all of the bells and whistles surrounding you. Turn off the tech.  Value the silence or even the quiet of your own voice, or even… the voice of God.

Rather than loud, go for listen today.
