2007 Carpineto Chianti Classico Riserva

Carpineto is one of my favorite Chianti producers and every time I see an opportunity to buy a bottle with a touch of age from a good vintage I usually pull the trigger. 2007 was an exceptional year in Tuscany and the Chianti region produced classic wine throughout.

This particular bottle was in excellent condition. The color of the wine was still very deep and almost black at the center of the glass and just fade
d towards the rim to a deep ruby.

On the nose the wine shows beautiful rustic leather tones, dried black cherry, tea leaf, sweet tobacco, and hints of rosemary and dried herbs. There's always this underlining cocoa powder and pure cherry thing with the best Chianti's and this wine has that in spades.

On the palate the wine displays gorgeous flavors of unsweetened coco powder, earth cherry and currant, homemade cranberry sauce, dried herb, and a iron-like red soil quality. The texture is silky and soft, but the tannins still grip and the wine comes across very dry. 93 points
