"Remember to deposit money in your bank on Li Chun Day,” advises Sifu Sabrina

“Li Chun starts on 4th February 2022 at 4.20 am and denotes the beginning of Spring,” Sifu Sabrina says, arms leaning on her shiny mahogany desk. “It's an auspicious day to deposit money in your bank account. Hopefully, this symbolic act will pull in money luck throughout the year.” She yanks open a side drawer, flicks out a sheet of paper and hands it to me. “Here’re the best times according to the different animal signs.”

Sitting across her, I take the paper and read it aloud:

“Rat: 7 am to 9 am; 3 pm to 5 pm

Ox: 9 am to 11 am; 3 pm to 5 pm; 5 pm to 7 pm

Tiger: 5 am to 7 am; 7 pm to 9 am

Rabbit: 1 pm to 3 pm; 3 pm to 5 pm [best]

Dragon: 3 pm to 5 pm [best]; 5 pm to 7 pm

Snake: 3 pm to 5 pm [best]; 5 pm to 7 pm

Horse: 1 pm to 3 pm

Goat: 5 am to 7 am

Monkey: 7 am to 9 am; 9 am to 11 am; 3 pm to 5 pm [best]

Chicken: 7 am to 9 am; 9 am to 11 am; 3 pm to 5 pm [best]

Dog: 5 am to 7 am

Pig: 5 am to 7 am; 1 pm to 3 pm; 3 pm to 5 pm [best]"

I fold the paper into quarters and slip it into my shirt pocket. “Thanks for the tip.”
