Stillness–the gift that never grows old

Tags: gift slowing

Hard to believe, but I’ve been 88 for five days now. Yet I realize that I don’t feel all that different than I used to feel when I was 87, or 86, or perhaps even 76.

I don’t walk as fast, mind you. One or two new pains, or discomforts, have put in an appearance. Once in awhile I go into the kitchen or the living room to do something and have to pause a moment to remember what my purpose was. But heck, that’s been going on for quite a while.

When I take a moment to think about aging, like I am now, what fills me with joy and happiness is realizing that while my body is, for sure, Slowing down, my spirit is not slowing down. The Gift of stillness that I believe is given to all of us at birth is just as present now as it ever was, and perhaps more so. I find it is easier to love–whether it be people, trees, a blue Colorado sky, or a passing butterfly.

Now remember, please, that I’ve only been 88 for a few days. Maybe I will change my mind on some of the above thoughts as time goes by:-) Right now, however, I like to think that as was said long ago, “the best wine comes at the end of the feast.”

If you have any thoughts you’d like to add please write. My love to all.
