Kao Taem: ‘Jam jee’ fruits, ‘Dtaeng-tai’, ‘Dtaeng-gwaa’, ‘Ka-nun’, ‘Noi-naa’, ‘Put-saa’, ‘Mang-kut’, ‘La-mut’, ‘Lam-yai’, ‘Ma-feuang’, ‘Ma-fai’, ‘Ma-groot’, Ma-naao’, ‘Ma-praao’. Say! What comes after that? I’ve forgotten them.
สีสวาด: ส้มโอ ฟักแฟง แตงโม
Si Sawat: ‘Som-oh’, ‘Fak-faeng’, ‘Dtaeng-moh’.
วิเชียรมาศ: ไชโย โห่หิ้วว
Wi-chian maat: Yippee! Hoh heew!
เก้าแต้ม: ฮี่ๆ (เสียงหัวเราะ) ขอบคุณจ้ะ ชั้น(ฉัน)ลืมไป ได้ยินพี่ก้อยเล่นกับพี่เก่ง เลยจำมาท่องบ้าง
Kao Taem: Hee hee! (laughing) Thanks! I’ve forgotten them completely. I heard Pee Goi playing it with Pee Geng and I too want to learn it.
วิเชียรมาศ: เออ ผลไม้ที่ขึ้นต้นด้วย มะ ทั้งหลายเนี่ยะ(นี่อ่ะ) ทำไมต้องเรียกว่า มะ ล่ะ
Wi-chian maat: Uhm! By the way, what does the ‘Ma’ in all those fruit names starting with ‘Ma’, mean?
สีสวาด: ในสมัยสุโขทัยโน่น เค้า(เขา)เรียกผลไม้บางชนิดว่า หมาก ต่อมากลายเป็น มะ อย่าง หมากม่วง หมากพร้าว ก็เลยกลายเป็น มะม่วง มะพร้าว
Si Sawat: In the Sukhothai era, people called some types of fruits ‘Maak’ which later became just ‘Ma’, for example ‘Maak-muang’ and ‘Maak-praao’ became ‘Ma-muang’ and ‘Ma-praao’ respectively.
ผู้บรรยาย: ชื่อผลไม้ที่ขึ้นต้นว่า มะ เปลี่ยนมาจากคำว่า หมาก ในสมัยโบราณ เช่น มะขาม มะไฟ ก็มาจาก หมากขาม หมากไฟ
Narrator: The ‘Ma’ in all those fruit names starting with ‘Ma’ is a clipped form of the word ‘Maak’ used in ancient times, for example ‘Ma-kaam’ and ‘Ma-fai’ came from ‘Maak-kaam’ and ‘Maak-fai’ respectively.
แมวทั้งสามตัว: แล้วพบกันใหม่นะครับบบ (ครับ)
