Frigid temperatures means roads are turned into frozen creeks in Detroit (suspiciously, this never happens to any other community). Detroit’s very-common water main breaks flood streets that have parked cars (or traps drivers that sink in too deep), and then freezes them in place (imagine your car frozen in ice to the top of its wheels). This week’s temperatures have cracked well over a dozen water mains around the city. Plus, one repair crew accidentally broke a gas line, cutting the heat to +80 homes that won’t get it back for at least a day or two.
New Years is coming soon and Detroiters fire off thousands of rounds of ammo into the sky for celebration. To curb gunfire, one ammo store owner stopped selling on New Year’s Eve 9 years ago. He noticed that customers were buying huge bulk orders of ammo only on that day to fire off that night. It creates havoc in the Detroit with: bullets through their front door or windows, hits their cars – bullets just rain down across the city from the sky.
Over the last two years, Hepatitis-A is exploding in SE Michigan, and Detroit in particular. You acquire it with unclean food or water and it can be lethal. Across Michigan, 18 people have died and the SE Michigan Hep-A rate is 10 times normal.
And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,
- Just west of Detroit in Melvindale, the below-zero temperatures haven’t slowed car thieves, breaking into vehicles to target Christmas gifts.
- Deron Tucker was arrested for armed robbery – of a Detroit mail man during his route in broad daylight. Detroit Firefighters got bullet resistant vests this year, shouldn’t anyone working in Detroit demand vests for protection?
- Two Detroit scrappers broke into a DTE substation to steal wire and components. Instead, they touched a 24,000-volt conductor and both were electrocuted. The shock blew out power to the local area which prompted DTE to visit the station where they found the bodies.
