Do You Have Imposter Syndrome? My Reason Why You Shouldn’t

Imposter Syndrome is real.

Do you have it?

Here are the symptoms : (taken from Wikipedia)

Impostor experience can take form differently for everyone. Some common signs that someone may be feeling like an Impostor are:

  • Perfectionism
  • Overworking
  • Undermining one’s own achievements
  • Fear of failure
  • Discounting praise

Impostor experience can present itself through thoughts such as:

  • “I must not fail”
  • “I feel like a fake”
  • “I just got lucky”

It’s actually something a lot of us experience, even people who have actually achieved a certain status or who most would consider far from being an imposter.

Here is why I think there should never be anyone who feels this way.

  • Most times the reason (I think) people feel this way is when they are giving someone else advice or suggestions on something they are not doing themselves. This doesn’t mean you can’t give someone else advice on a topic. Maybe you have researched it or gotten information from another reputable source and feel confident enough to share your knowledge. Maybe you know the right things to do but just aren’t doing them but this doesn’t mean you can’t share helpful information with another person if you feel it will help them. Just make sure whatever knowledge your spreading is fact-based and not heresay or something you have heard someone else saying before. research a topic before giving advice to others on it.

Also here is a video on it as well. Enjoy!

And is you want to take your own test to see if you have “imposter syndrome” you can do that here.

I took the test and got an 80. Wow!

Let me know what results you get.
