Book Encounters

No matter how much I read, my to-read lists are never getting shorter. Wonderful, isn’t it?

As I have learned from conversations with my friends, finding a Book to read can sometimes be difficult. Especially for those who do not read that often. It totally makes sense for me. I do not watch movies that often and I know little to nothing about upcoming releases, popular sequels or actors. But I read quite a lot, and I am good at finding new books to read.

The following are my favorites ways to encounter a future read, you should try it too!

Create Goodreads account. Goodreads is a digital library where you can store and rate the books you have read. More than that, you can join virtual book clubs or start one yourself. There are many ways you can engage with fellow book lovers to discover new Bookish horizons.

I have started using Goodreads over 4 years ago and it hasn’t failed me once. I update my profile there more often than I update any other social media Account I own.

Follow bookstagrams. As you can probably guess, bookstagrams stand for bookish Instagram accounts. I find, that following bookstagrams not only helps to find your next read, but also inspires to pick a book at the times you thought you do not have time for it.

To start following those, start by exploring bookstagram hashtag, or simply searching for a name of your beloved writer or book. You will be surprised by the number of bookish accounts and images that will come your way. Enjoy!

I follow quite a few bookstagram accounts myself and this is one my favorites. Take a look at the feed!

I also love scrolling through Liina‘s, Mathilde‘s and Layla‘s accounts. I have even exchanged a couple of messages with these charming girls.

Learn what your role-models read. This is hands down my favorite way to add new books to my to-read lists because it is deeply connected to the person I look up to. I am a strong believer, that books we love reflect our true inner selfs more than we can assume.

Whenever I meet an interesting and inspiring person, I ask what kind of books she or he reads. Is it fantasy or classics they choose to read, or maybe it’s non-fiction? It is even better if they give a name of the book they would recommend you to read.

There must be a writer whose work you appreciate with all of your heart. Try finding out what that writer reads, then read it yourself. Same goes for the human rights activist whose beliefs strongly correlate to yours, actor, musician, any public person you admire.

Watch BookTubes. From book reviews, hauls, to-be-read lists, monthly wrap-ups to themed recommendations, BookTubers have a lot of content to offer. BookTubes are great source of information for those who are looking for their next read.

Even though I am trying to spend less time on YouTube these days, I still religiously watch Sanne from Books and Quills. Quick and snappy videos keep me coming back to her channel. By now, I cannot name how many books ended up on my to-read list after watching her and other bookish channels.

My next read is going to be Swing Time by Zadie Smith. And yours?
