To Give...

Tags: gift effort

Have you ever gifted someone something special? Be it something you made, something you bought or something of yourself? We all have right? It's a wonderful feeling isn't it? It makes you feel giddy knowing you put thought into. Knowing that when you Gift it, that person is going to love it or you to the moon and back. Sadly, not always so...

There have been countless times when I have put so much thought into the occasion, the gift, the birthday or simply made the moment the best I could only to be crushed. It still hasn't deterred me though...I'm not me if I don't give 200% of myself. And at this moment, I say boo to those who don't rejoice in the spirit of being a recipient to us givers. Those that can't appreciate nor give such love and preciousness in return have no idea what they are missing sadly...

Adding salt to that wound is the poor effort made in the attempt to return such generosity. The countless thoughtless excuses that mount on their part. "Not enough time, just couldn't think of the right gift, didn't know what to get, didn't get to do what I really wanted to do, wasn't sure if you'd like it...yada yada yada..." Feelings subsequently get hurt and to this I simply ask, why? Is it so hard in this vastly available world to gift? To give outside of yourself what could become the single most beautiful memory in time? Be it the gift of an effort, a smile, a treasured item, time together, a memory to make...something to which we can all feel we're in a special place with one another.

I salute to those who do make that effort. To those who burn the midnight oil, brace rush hour traffic, save up cash to make it special, put in hours to make a music list, churn their stomachs to risk making a very perfect moment happen...here's to you. Because I've been there, will continue to be there and man oh man, it's just awesome to give your all.

May you ride the skateboard of life throwing caution to the wind and giving chance your absolute best. And if someone gives you that skateboard, be thankful, for it may never be gifted again.
