I was posed a question at a Company recently: ‘Which are the Best Apps in India and Why?’
Though eventually i chose another question but that got me Thinking. I did jot down a few nevertheless. Rated by me in no particular order.
# Truecaller App
This app. has almost single handedly Managed to put an end to spam and prank calls. Something that TRAI and other government agencies have been trying to resolve through legislation. This is truly the power of crowd-sourcing.
# Ola App
This app. has changed the way Urban Indian travels. Overnight auto’s and taxis have started making you feel like a chauffeur driven passenger. No more Fare arguments and jhanjat! But that is not the main reason why i like this app.. This app. has managed to get on top of the transportation problem that has for years been hopelessly managed by transport corporations and auto unions. In the process they have mastered the logistics solution. They have created a framework, on top of which they can now sell any service! Imagine cargo! Done! Grocery! Done! Great thinking by the team at Ola!
# Money View App
I like this app. for the kind of dashboard reports it generates from my spending pattern. Good stuff. The interesting detail about the app. is that it takes SMS alerst from various Service Providers and automatically tells me how much my cash outflow is likely to be. Likewise when i pay for a service, it automatically reads the SMS and updates the paid bills section. The team has done some very good work understanding the standard messages sent by a variety of service providers in India.
