A Monkey Public Service Announcement

This is not my A-Z post.  Instead, it's a mini-rant I meant to write last year on this very day.  Every April 1st, Women all over the country take to facebook, twitter, text message, and any other form of communication to tell the world that they are pregnant.  It's not new.  Women have been doing this since before the digital age.  It's just now more visible.

Last year, I saw, for the first time, people really offended by this.  Apparently, it's very hurtful to people who can't have children or who have miscarried.

Folks, lighten the fuck up.  The world should not have to change because of your personal tragedy.  If we had to stop joking about everything that was tragic for anyone ever, we couldn't joke at all.  And, more importantly, joking is actually a far better way of coping than sitting around taking offense to every damn thing that might in any way remind you of a tragedy you personally suffered.

The world doesn't revolve around you, it continues on in spite of you.  You can either enjoy the ride or sit their with a stick up your ass.  Having suffered through my fair share of tragedy, including a miscarriage of what would have been our second child, I highly recommend the former rather than the latter.
