Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Wild Forever (Live Performance)

Released in January 2017.

Celebrating her 38th birthday today is Sophie Michelle Ellis-Bextor, daughter of ex-children’s television presenter Janet Ellis, and also film producer and director Robin Bextor. This year marks twenty years since coming to the public’s attention as lead singer of indie Band Theaudience, Despite debut single “I Got The Wherewithal” peaking at a rather lowly number 170, they did score two top forty hits with “A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed” (#27) and “I Know Enough (I Don’t Know Enough)” (#25) before disbanding in 1999.

2000 saw Ellis-Bextor change direction, and return as vocalist on DJ Spiller’s summer smash “Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)”, perhaps surprisingly beating Victoria Beckham’s debut single to the top of the charts, and ending up as the eighth best-seller of the year (with sales of 520,000). Since then, she has Released six solo studio albums, five of which (including 2016’s “Familia”) have made the top twenty, and yielding between them a total of eleven top forty singles – with 2001’s “Take Me Home” and the infamous “Murder On The Dancefloor” joint biggest, peaking at number two.

“Wild Forever” was the third single released from “Familia”, an album which again showcases a wide variety of styles of music, and like predecessor “Wanderlust”, was made with the assistance of Ed Harcourt. Here, she performs the track for BBC Scotland on The Quay Sessions, with her band member, husband, pilot, and rock band The Feeling’s Richard Jones on bass.
