Cappella – Move On Baby (TOTP)

Peak UK Chart Position: #7 in February 1994.

Quick facts:

  • “Move On Baby” chart-topped in Finland, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, and went top ten in most European territories.
  • The actual vocalists on the track were Eileina Dennis and MC Fixx It (real name Cyriel E. Ricardo Overman).
  • The track was the second highest new entry on the UK charts on this day in 1994, at number 7. Mariah Carey was straight in at number one with “Without You”.
  • Bortolotti was behind many acts and aliases, although few have had an impact on the UK charts. Those that did include Gino Latino (“Welcome” #17 in 1990), Anticappella (“2√231” #24 in 1991), 49ers (“Touch Me” #3 in 1990), and East Side Beat (“Ride Like The Wind” #3 in 1991)

This performance on Top of the Pops from February 17th 1994 is remembered for all the wrong reasons. The live vocal rule was still in force (three weeks later it would be removed), so despite Overett’s main forté being a dancer – and having got away with a reasonable performance of previous hit “U Got 2 Let The Music” – this one was to snag her somewhat.
