I’d like to thank Bay Alarm Medical for sponsoring this post.
My mom and I are always joking about how old we’re getting. She laughs at me when I walk into a room and admit that I’ve totally forgotten what I came in for—always quick to remind me that we’re all getting older by the day!
And it’s true! I am inching closer to 40 and my beautiful, vivacious mother is almost 60.
While age 60 certainly doesn’t equate to old by any means, my mom will be the first one to admit that she’s noticing some physical changes these days. Those natural changes combined with specific health issues that she’s been dealing with mean we decided it might be a smart idea to be proactive about keeping my mom (and my dad) safe.
Earlier this month I helped my parents install a Bay Alarm Medical device in their home. Bay Alarm Medical’s trained 24/7 emergency operators will be there to contact family, friends, neighbors and if necessary, local 911 emergency services, all at the push of a button.
The fact is, last year my mom fell on her basement steps and broke her foot. She was home alone, and luckily, she was able to reach a phone to call for help. Even though my mom is generally in great health, it only takes one fall to change all of that.
After seeing my grandmother experience several devastating falls over the past few years, I just want to equip my parents with a tool that will be there for them, just in case they need it.
I assumed that our Bay Alarm Medical device may be difficult to install, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. I want to be very clear and honest here when I say you literally just plug the device into an outlet and into your phone jack and it is ready to do its job.
After I plugged everything in (this took less than two minutes), I promptly pressed the HELP button on the device by accident. WOOPS…!!!
I felt a little panicked at first when I heard the device tell me it was calling for help. Within just a few seconds, a really friendly voice came through the speaker. It was the Bay Alarm Medical dispatcher asking if I needed help. I informed the operator that I was just testing during an installation, and after verifying a few details about our account, we said our goodbyes.
I pressed the HELP button on accident, but Bay Alarm Medical encourages you to test the device during your installation process, so I probably would have been doing that anyway. Testing the device is a great way to see how well it actually works.
I have to say that it was great to see and hear the product in action during the installation process. I love knowing that if my mom has an issue, she can simply press the button on her pendant, bracelet or on the main device for immediate assistance.
Bay Alarm Medical has all of her important information on file including who to call in case of an emergency. Of course, they will send for paramedics if necessary.
The In-Home Medical Alert System from Bay Alarm Medical comes with the large main unit featuring the HELP button, a secondary HELP button that you can easily install in another room (I’ll be installing mom’s in the bathroom), a bracelet and a pendant. Each of these components have a button that you can push to call for help.
The In-Home Medical Alert System requires a landline, but Bay Alarm Medical also has a Cellular Unit that works with AT&T, an Automatic Fall Detection product that works with landline or cellular, and a Mobile GPS HELP Button that you can take anywhere. In other words, Bay Alarm Medical has a solution to meet the needs of your aging loved one.
If the paramedics are ever called, they will know where to go to find your loved one’s vial of life. Bay Alarm Medical recommends putting this on the refrigerator. It contains all of the pertinent emergency medical information that emergency personnel will need to best care for your loved one.
Will my parents be needing to press the HELP in the near future? I hope not, but I feel a great sense of peace knowing that a Bay Alarm Medical device is at their fingertips if they need help.
Being proactive and having life-saving tools in place before there is a problem is just really smart.
