Recording Studios’ 5th Birthday | Shortstraw Interview

XXX

Be a part of Recording Studios’ 5th Birthday Charity Event!

It’s nearly five years since the launch of Recording Studios and they have an amazing celebration lined up on 25th June 2016. They‘ve got a great bunch of bands together for a gig to help celebrate this milestone at the truly amazing venue The Good Luck Bar.

You Love Music and they love musicThat’s why they’re teaming up to have a gig with a difference. They’re going to use this birthday event to raise money for deaf children who have never experienced the magic of music.

Money raised will be used to fund cochlear implants and to buy Hearing aids, giving children the gift of hearing. They’re supporting a great charity called Hi Hopes. More specifically, they want to kick off by raising money for a cochlear implant, which costs R320 000.

DPC caught up with Shortstraw, who’s on the line-up, to find out more:

Hi, thanks for chatting to DPC!

Sure thing! Thanks for chatting to us.

How has 2016 been so far, any big news to share?

It’s been nice hey. How’s yours so far? How’s mom? We don’t have any big news really. We’re working on some new material at the moment and we just came back from our first Euro tour. We got nominated for a SAMA and lost. That was fun. Yuss, people love to dress up for that hey. Even Tom. I felt very underdressed.

Also great thanks! That’s awesome – Congrats! You guys will also be a part of Recording Studios’ 5th Birthday Charity Event at the end of the month. What’s it all about?

It’s a fundraiser for cochlear implants, which is the amazing device that will allow someone to hear for the first time ever. It’s pretty damn amazing and we’re very stoked to be part of it.

You are supporting a charity called Hi Hopes. What do they do?

HI HOPES provides home-based support for families with Deaf or hard-of-hearing infants. We visit the home weekly for about an hour and teach, support and equip parents through the traumatic journey of learning their infant has a hearing loss toward acceptance and empowerment to take on their journey fully equipped.

Our focus is on early intervention and promoting whichever method of communication is best suited to the particular child and his or her family, be it speaking, signing or a combination of both. Our aim is that each deaf and hard of hearing child develops to their full potential in a family that is fully supported.

As musicians, tell us about your passion for helping deaf children.

We can only imagine how shit it must be to not be able to hear. We don’t know what we’d do without music, let alone the basic communication of talking and hearing. So we feel really strongly about wanting to help people hear for the first time. Just hopefully it won’t be one of our songs. We’d want them to hear a good song at least!

Who else will be performing at the event?
