‘Come Back to Town’ to Watch Seasonal Events

Last week, Cape Town launched a busking and seasonal event programme to support the city’s Central City Improvement District (CCID). It will run until the 20th of December, reinvigorating the economy of downtown Cape Town.

Pop-up performances

In addition to busking acts, visitors can expect pop-up performances. Each performance includes: hip-hop dancing, a five-piece marimba band, guitarists, singers and beatbox performers.

With four acts a day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon between 12h00 and 14h00, the program will take place in different locations. Some of these locations include: Thibault Square, the corner of St Georges Mall and Waterkant Street, the corner of St Georges Mall and Castle Street and in Government Avenue at the Arch for Arch.

Adding to the lively performances, Dry Lemon Entertainment and The Waterfront Theatre School will take place. Acts will be rotated to keep performances fresh.

Busking programme

While the CCID’s Busking Programme ends next week, the City of Cape Town is planning a night-time busking programme to entertain visitors to the CBD from 16 December to 8 January 2021.

Talented young buskers can hone their skills throughout December and. January. Tasso Evangelinos commented that the pandemic “wrought havoc on the CBD economy as a result the footfall into CBD has dropped.” The new programme invites people, workers, business owners and tourists to rediscover what they’ve been missing.

Co-coordinator of the programme, Terri Carter said the performance was an opportunity for buskers to generate income and get experience.
