Ben Dey’s ‘This is the year’ is out now. Released with Gallo Record Company, the newest Song is an accidental, yet highly anticipated project of Dey.
Evoking campfires out in the wild, his acoustic guitar, harmonica and vocals are the main elements of the singer’s story and his new solo journey. Dey’s second release, ‘Somewhere way out west’ follows hot on the heels, due November 20th.
Ben Dey’s accidental project…
Best known as the frontman of South African rock Band Ben Dey and the Concrete Lions (BDCL), Dey is a recognisable figure of the music scene. While lockdown prevented BDCL from practicing and performing, it did not stop Dey who continued to write songs.
Dey soon realised that the songs he was making sounded different to those created with the band. He had accidentally started a new project. While BDCL remains Dey’s first love and he will continue playing in the band, he will pursue a separate solo musical endeavour in parallel.
An anthem of resilience
Dey’s first release reflects on the restrictions and opportunities in a year of regulated freedom. It is an anthem of resilience, an invitation to gather and piece together what was broken, to rebuild and journey on.
Recorded at Sunset Studios in Franschhoek, Dey’s release is now available cross all digital platforms: https://africori.to/thisistheyear.
