A Little More Barcelona

I’m not spending as much time as I’d like here, Barcelona…..the reason is, I didn’t expect to be so charmed with the place and plans were made!

I’ll have to make future plans.

Even though my time here was filled with rain and chill, I learned something ‘spectacular’ here.  And that is that ‘cold wet Weather can be a norm, therefore it isn’t that bad….adjust’.

Strange isn’t it….adjust.  Adjust to  cold wet weather!!!

As I walked down the streets of Barcelona, trekked via the bus system and braved the subway I observed and thru my observation, it seemed that the people of Barcelona ignored the weather and just carried on!!!  I was dumbfounded!!!  Not one person I heard bellyached of the unfair weather!  They just seemed to have an attitude adjustement or a weathertude adjustment I might say.

Barcelona subway train, my first ever!

Baby carriages had their own insulation and coverage.  Such coverage I admired at some of the places I frequented around St. Petersburg….like the ‘Sea Hag’ and the Whistle Stop.  Now, I’m seeing the weatherproofing of babies!!!  What’s next?  Windshield wipers on baby carriages???

There was time to get up close and personal with some fine folks…usually (as in the instance) ladies that bartend.

Barcelona….

Which was a pleasant relief as the bartends in Portugal tended to be male.  And I’m not opposed to male bartends as I’m a male myself.  I just find female bartends pleasant and easy on the eyes…..sorry fellas.

I seemed to have found my way around just fine.

Winter weather and Barcelona

I was quite able to find my way around to some of the bars and restaurants and make some acquaintances…  It seems when I ask questions about there food, drinks, and beers that their pride in their social life shows their better side (not that anyone was rude/ugly/nasty/etc.) and before I knew it something ‘free’ was being put in front of me!  Not like in Portugal where the waiter puts it in front of you, you take a pretzel and are charged for the full entre!  At one place in Portugal the waiter kept after me to eat something…I drank my beer and left.

That slice of pizza and a soda is a bit over $10.00 in U.S. money!!!!  Be careful.  This was across the street from the Basilica.

Yes I’m a tourist.  But, I prefer for the most part to not hit the big tourist sites.  I like to reach into the neighborhoods and eat along with the locals at their little Store front cafe.  Most of the time there’s a communication issue but, but….we both overcome that thru patience and curiosity.

I do go to some tourist sites like the Basilica but I’m rather brief there….see it, ask some questions and move on.  Time is important.  There will be a time coming up that I’ll miss something I really want to see but, it was a prudent decision and you’ll understand why when you read.

The Mall

Across from my hotel was a huge mall. Three floors, restaurants, stores and theatre.  Much like in the States but there was this one difference that I was somewhat humored with, it was this one store.

A condom store!!! I was totally amused here.  I didn’t exactly walk in and take a look around, it’s condoms right!!!  But I did go to the right hand side and took a quick look at what was on the shelf. There was some suckers on the shelf….yep suckers; dick suckers and vagina lickers.  The ‘truth’!  I should have browsed the store for the experience instead of being concerned I’d be seen!  The guy in there didn’t much care (or so it seemed) what someone would think of him!

Barcelona!  I wanna go back!

I’ll have to make it a point to return with more time on my hands, money and perhaps a more pleasant season of the year.

Peace, love, and beaches,

John
