What I Learned From A Monkey

What I Learned From A Monkey

Sounds a bit like I’m putting myself down.  But, I wouldn’t change the title, nope I wouldn’t because you see it’s true and it’s applicable to most anyone.

I don’t want to limit the input of any good thing in my life at this time and that includes being taught a lesson from an encounter with a Monkey.

What possibly could a monkey teach me or any other human?

This is an out of the way lesson.  Yet it’s from my direct encounter with the Spider Monkey yesterday.  It hit me real quick…..not the monkey, the lesson.

I didn’t see this coming.  Nor did I see the monkey coming.  I was on one of my usual walks, I’m roughly 500 meters from my condo and the path is next to the road framed on both sides by jungle.  All of a sudden the cars (2 of ’em) coming towards me were way, way out of their lanes and driving erratically until they came to a full stop at different angles.  As I continued my walk I just happened to glance after they passed and there he was… first encounter with a spider monkey.  He was totally oblivious to me at the time.

I didn’t immediately think to take a picture or video.  It was then the light bulb came on. The first and only pic (a bit rushed as you can see) followed by the video.  The video is to large to post here so if you please, visit my Facebook page.

I follow the carefree spider monkey for about 7 minutes….somewhere in the video after he crossed to my side of the street, he recognized that I was following.  He was just a bit startled at first which I understand because I’m that way too when I see myself in the mirror in the mornings.

So where is this valuable lesson this ‘spider monkey’ taught me.  When he got to my side of the road, that’s when the lesson took place.

I realized that if I weren’t out and about that I would not have this encounter.  I would have never seen this monkey and I would have never had an up-close and personal experience with this wild creature. Do you hear me?

I can’t experience these wonders and beauty of my world and my existence sitting in my condo/house behind a computer screen.

For things to happen in life, I have to be active.  I can’t see it or experience it otherwise.  I must be on my way forward, doing things, breathing and experiencing life!  Active!!

My experience wouldn’t have happened except that I was actively seeking and exploring life.

I couldn’t do what I’ve done and seen all that I’ve seen and experienced all that I’ve experienced if I wouldn’t have taken a chance and stayed in St. Petersburg, Florida working a job that I just couldn’t do anymore.  My heart wasn’t there anymore……city or job.  I needed something new.  And now I’ve got something new.

What I Learned From A Monkey?

At least to me, I learned something very profound.  It’s easy to talk about it, but it’s exciting and rewarding to do it.

Peace, love, and beaches,
