Political Involvement. Mine has been zero.

I don’t like discussing politics or religion. It seems that everybody is right, and partial to their ingrained belief. BUT…

But, I read this “We Greeks believe that a man who takes no part in public affairs is not merely lazy, but good for nothing” by Thucydides and it got me to thinking….

First, I’m not Greek. But!!! This really isn’t about being Greek but rather the character of the Greeks during his time. Thucydides was the father of the school of political realism, which views the political behavior of individuals and the outcomes of relations between states as ultimately mediated by, and built upon, the emotions of fear and self-interest of the individuals.  His writings are still studied at universities and military colleges worldwide.

Do we have a responsibility???

After reading, I thought, “am I being irresponsible”? By not chiming in on the political situation. Am I avoiding this out of the ’emotion of fear’ that Thucydides mentions? Am I ‘good for nothing’? After all, I don’t want to ‘hurt’ anyone’s feelings. Never my intent. Nor do I want them to feel uncomfortable or threatened by what may oppose them. Too, me….that’s just not worth it. AND, there is the notion of being fearful of how people will treat me and what rotten things will be said.

And then again….I found this challenging.

I recently made a point on social media that was met with resistance. I defended myself. Not as I wish I would have, but I did.

Now I’m thinking that it’s those that are trying to quiet me are the one’s that are being unfair about this!!! At that moment this morning Tuesday 13, 2019 that I made my decision to speak up.

This may turn some off. But wait, hear me out on this.

Wouldn’t you be open to listening/reading from the point of being presented something factual???

Political Involvement……

I understand the emotional aspect of our present day discourse. It’s a shame.

If you didn’t vote….you automatically voted for the person who won. If you didn’t vote you are still welcome to speak your mind. There’s no rule in our government that says you can’t express your opinion!!! Only an individual with a weak argumentive position would try to take away your right to voice your opinion. Don’t let them!

When I address a political point I will have done my best to research with due diligence. I want to be right (don’t we all) but, the point of being right is be factual and present that in a manner that is respectful and honest.

Should I????

On the subject of politics I will endeavor not to bend the truth and extrapolate to shove my point across. You see, I want to feel good about my effort and it’s result.

I will not do any name calling!!! Words mean something and every effort will be set forth to use those words guardedly with the intent of only finding the truth. We find that truth with open minds and open discourse.

Will I get it right every time? I’m gonna give it my 100% effort. Should I have a fact that seems flawed, before I publish it I will grapple with that content in an effort to get it right. And should I be blinded and do get it wrong, I’m open to being corrected.

Political Involvement

Sometimes ‘we’ don’t like the truth. It’s those time that we need to clear our minds and listen for the truth. Not some sort of emotional rubbish, but a due surrender to what the truth is and I will endeavor to make the point and the truth obvious.

I won’t be doing this daily…..but I will begin to engage in political discourse.

Let’s see where this leads….
