Foodie Review: Atomic Burger, Bristol

Messy Jessie Burger at Atomic Burger Bristol

Happy Monday everyone! This weekend I visited my beautiful best friend, Vanessa, in Bristol. I'd been a few times before but, with my birthday coming later this month, she offered to treat me to lunch at Atomic Burger on Bristol's notorious Gloucester Road. Here's my review...

I'd wanted to visit Atomic Burger for a while as I'd heard amazing things and, like many shops and restaurants on Gloucester Road, it looked pretty cool. Atomic Burger is a themed burger restaurant decorated with 80s and 90s popular culture, cult memorabilia and comic-covered walls. The restaurant offers a selection of no nonsense burgers, BBQ, sides, desserts and milkshakes - all with film and TV themed names. As you walk in, you'll immediately spot a life-sized Storm Trooper which was obviously pretty exciting for me and enough to get me in the door...

The service itself is flawless. We were greeted by a super friendly member of staff who took us to our seats and made us feel very welcome. Vanessa opted for The Messy Jessie (a dish named after Jessie from ToyStory). This was a grilled chicken burger with caramelized onion, rocket salad, gherkins and a side of slaw and cajan fries. The dish certainly lived up to its name but looked fantastic. I, however, went for a Forrest Gump Burger - in other words, an American cheese burger with salad, slaw and gherkin. I went for plain fries and a sour cream dip. The burgers themselves are simple patties prepared medium and served in your standard bun but they hit the spot for sure. Less is always more. I did, however, think that they were just as good as ones I could make at home myself.

Deciding that this would be our only meal of the day, Vanessa and I couldn't resist some dessert and went for our old favourite, American waffles. These were perfect - freshly made and served with chocolate sauce, maple syrup and vanilla ice-cream. The ice-cream itself was not my ideal kind of vanilla but was still very enjoyable with the waffle which was wonderfully spongy and overall, very delicious. We were well and truly stuffed.

As you can see, Atomic Burger was like Christmas for my eyes. Simpsons wallpaper, Gremlins behind the counter and Star Wars all over the walls and ceiling - they're certainly got their branding down to a tee. I absolutely love the nostalgic value of the restaurant and I honestly think there is something for everyone. Myself and Vanessa certainly loved eating our burgers and singing along to Boyzone and geeking out over Ninja Turtle lighting. For drinks, a main and a dessert you're looking at roughly £18 per head which, for Bristol and the quality of the food itself, I did think this was fairly reasonable. Living in London, this is what I've come to expect for novelty burger bars in Shoreditch but without ordering a dessert also. Again, I cannot fault the service, the food arrived super promptly and I loved the atmosphere. Overall, I would be more than happy to visit again.

So there you have it for another foodie review. Have you ever been the Atomic Burger? What's your favourite themed restaurant? As always, I love reading your thoughts so please do leave me lots of lovely things in the comment section below.

Hope everyone had an amazing weekend, until next time...
