Today Alison and I got up early and headed down to Ft. Lauderdale to meet with Dr.Sassani who will be doing my Surgery. His office staff was amazing and instantly made me feel at home. We went over paper work and the do's and don'ts of pre surgery and post surgery. He took measurements and discussed the procedure (it will take about 3 hours because I'm large). Recovery will be hard, about 4 weeks of constant chest compression and very minimal arm movement (I'll look more like a trex than normal)
Pre-Op with the Wizard
After meeting with the staff we went over to New Beginnings where I will spend my first post-op day. I Chatted with other guys who are post op by just a few days and was glad to see them being social and mobile. We all kind of chatted about different procedures and recovery and what I should expect the first week out. We then spent time with Leland (the founder) and Bonnie who were very welcoming and kind. Leland and I have been talking quiet a bit and I'm glad I was finally able to meet him. What they have going on is amazing. They are a 501c(or 503? I dunno they are non profit. They provide safe and comfortable housing for trans guys who are recovering from surgery. They provide all their meals and Leland is a retired OR nurse who is there to assist with drains and medical questions which really puts my mind to ease. I hope that one day I am in a position to donate time and or money to this amazing organization. Check them out at http://newbeginningstlc.org
As for me, well right now I think I'm in a state of constant shock that this is actually going to happen. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop and for this to be some weird dream. I am very thankful that I didn't have weeks or months to build up anticipation and nerves. In just a few short days I will finally match and it will be epic!!
