We were really doing so well. Even in our sleep-deprived state yesterday we got some work done. Today was kind of a wash though. I had good intentions, but an accidental nap (the child’s, not mine) right in the middle of when I’d planned to sit down for some school work kind of derailed everything. The poor guy did seem really tired, and I knew we had our first Soccer meetup of the season tonight so I let him sleep. He woke up with just enough time to get his soccer clothes on and head out the door. And I figured, hey, soccer counts for P.E., right?
This is our 4th season with Soccer Shots and we really Love it. It’s low-pressure and is just perfect for my non-competitive kid (unless of course you’re playing Monopoly Junior, then he’s out for blood). The first time we went Wyatt literally laid down on the field, and everyone just kind of played around him. The second time was better. And the third time he was reluctantly participating. He was always encouraged to participate, but never forced or made to feel like he was doing something wrong. I feel like this is the biggest reason he warmed up to it at all. He was allowed to ease into it and get comfortable at his own pace. Fast forward to this season and the difference in him is like night and day. He gets out there without hesitation and plays and has fun. It has just been an awesome experience and I’m glad he still has a few more years left that he can participate. If you have a kid that needs to ease into any sort of activity, I highly recommend Soccer Shots.
Just look at that cuteness. One sock up. One sock down. Just like Christopher Robin. He insisted.
After soccer we enjoyed some dinner from Sonic and Wyatt headed down to the basement with Poppo, pretty much a nightly ritual around here. Basement time with Poppo is very important. While they were down there doing manly wood shop things (hey, that counts as education too, yeah?) I was upstairs binging Hannibal (even though I know they cancelled it and I’m just going to be disappointed that it doesn’t have a real ending but I can’t stop because it’s so good) and laminating the heck out of some Homeschool printables. I’m pretty sure it’s cliche to say I’m in love with my laminator. Isn’t every homeschool mom? But really, it’s the only thing that I’d consider entering into a long-term romantic relationship at this point in my life. That’s pretty serious.
Moving on before I make that anymore awkward.
At some point during the laminating fest the boys headed back upstairs and it was time for a quick game of Jumanji. It’s actually pretty fun and Wyatt loves it. I even convinced Wyatt to work on a couple of pages from this free farm printable pack I found today. And that pretty much wrapped up the night. I guess it wasn’t as much of a wash as I first thought.
We had fun, we learned some stuff, and no one cried. Win. Win. Win.
Tell me how your day was! Did you get a lot done or just kind of winged it like me?
