Day 22: A Rant About Weight Watchers

Let’s pretend I’ve been keeping up with this Every Day in May Challenge, shall we? Good, glad we could agree upon that. The topic for today is to rant. And oh boy, do I need to rant.

---

I joined Weight Watchers a week-and-a-half ago.

It’s not that I necessarily think I’m overweight. In fact, according to that pesky BMI chart, I fall into the “healthy” range. But a few years back, I did lose a lot of weight and, through my travels in Europe, managed to gain a lot of it back. My clothes are snug and I just feel gross.

After trying to count calories and get back into distance running myself and losing zero pounds, I decided to give Weight Watchers a try. It sounded effective and I like the Points system. It also keeps me accountable to water and fruit/vegetables intake.

I worked hard last week. I researched Points for restaurants ahead of time, refused several desserts, ran every other day, drank the recommended amount of water, etc.

I started WW on Monday, so on the following Monday I was giddy to weigh in.

I’d read success stories of people dropping 5 pounds in one week. I was realistic that WW says you will probably lose between .05-2 pounds, which is healthy.

I lost NOTHING.

NOTHING.

NOT EVEN AN OUNCE.

I refused to get discouraged, although it was hard not to.

Two days later (this morning) I weighed myself again.

I am not kidding you, I have not lost one single inkling of a number.

I’m about to give up and drive to Taco Bell for lunch.

Just kidding.

A little.

Tell me this has happened to you, my fellow Weight Watchers!

I

BEG

YOU.
