Mainstream media and its anti-Duterte tendencies

Philippine Media is considered to be one of the most rambunctious media in Asia. That is, Philippine media lacks restraint and restriction, it is free and democratized. This certain characterization emerged after Marcos’ dictatorial regime, when Cory Aquino assumed office “allegedly” reviving democracy in the Philippines.

Decades after the Philippines’ democratization, does the media still embody the “rambunctious” nature it was once known to have? Obviously, not anymore.

Through time, Philippine media was enamored to capitalism. It has become a business enterprise enabling itself to be used as instrument, dummies, or shield of certain political powers and forces thereby compromising not only its rambunctious nature but also its mandate to function as the “fourth estate” and “watchdog” of the society.

Anchored on this specific idea of media bias and abhorrence was the Facebook post published by Jay Sonza, a distinguished critic who is also a staunch supporter of the President.

In his post, Sonza enumerated a list of things or issues that are less likely to be tackled and reported by the Mainstream Media. Implicitly claiming that these issues do not share the sentiments and do not serve the purpose and intent of its politically inclined masters, Sonza affirmed the impossibility of such matters to be broadcasted.
“Kung hinihintay ninyo na magkusa silang ilabas iyong drilon-roxas-mabilog story, they will not do it

Sonza stated establishing how biased mainstream media is based on his introspection and presumptions.

Revealing the anti-Duterte tendencies of these mainstream media organizations, Sonza pointed out how Duterte’s explicit remarks easily make it as headlines of news reports published and broadcasted by the media.

Sonza affirmed.

Sonza then pointed out that this manipulative tactic is feasible and attainable and imposed that this scheme is only applicable if and only if one knows how to. Obviously, only certain political forces whose influence creeped into the ranks of certain capitalist media organization can enforce the mainstream media into doing so.

“CAN IT BE DONE? YES OF COURSE.  IT CAN BE DONE. THAT IS …..IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT.” Sonza ended boldly.
