Please Read before using essential oils….

I wrote this post this morning as I was just writing up my homemade linen spray recipe to share with you next week and I realised that every Essential Oils post I’ve written in the last couple of years has some sort of disclaimer attached to it about how you should always use essential oils with care.  I thought it would make life so much easier if I just had one post to link to with everything I want to say about what you should consider when using essential oils.

Please read before using essential oils.

So, I love using essential oils for the various DIYs that I make to use around the house but I do always feel like I need to share a bit of a disclaimer when I share one of these with you because there are things you need to be aware of when using essential oils.

I’ve never had any issues using essential oils on myself, on the kids or around my house and honestly, I’ve never heard of anyone who has but that doesn’t mean that I don’t ever use them without caution.

I always use high-quality essential oils which doesn’t necessarily mean paying more for the oils I use, I just look for essential oils that are 100% pure essential oils. I avoid using things that are labelled as a fragrance oil or a perfumed oil as they’re not the pure essential oils and I don’t know what’s been added to them.

That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with them and you can certainly use them if you’re OK with that but I just wanted to share what I look for.

It’s not recommended that you ever use essential oils undiluted without the advice of a professional and I’d never consider myself to be a professional so you won’t find that advice coming from me!

I’ve also been advised that it’s best to stay away from using any essential oils at all during your first trimester of pregnancy. I have no idea where I read that but honestly, even if there’s a 0.00000000001% chance of it causing you problems then I’d recommend staying away from even the most diluted of mixtures during that first few months.

It also goes without saying that it’s not a good idea to use any of your essential oil mixes on young children or on or near pets.

This isn’t meant to scare or put you off using the essential oil DIYs that I share but I do want to make sure that you use them wisely.

Another thing I’m always asked when I share my essential oil DIYs is where I get the bottles from so I thought I’d share some of the main ones I’ve used in the past….

Spray Bottles

  •  100ml plain glass spray bottle – £1.17
  • Blue spray bottle – £2.99
  • Set of 4 small spray bottles – £4.99
  • Set of 5 small spray bottles – £1.12 (I have these on order but it’s about three weeks still to the expected delivery date)
  • Pink Pretty Atomiser bottle – £11.95 ( I literally get at least two emails a week about this one)
  • Glass watering can style bottle – £10.99

(these prices are up to date today but often fluctuate up and down as most prices on Amazon do)

And one last thing, it’s a good idea to do little spot checks before you spray any mixture on surfaces, fabric or on yourself!
