#GardenGoals for 2018….

Last week I shared my #HouseGoals for 2018 with you and today, I thought I’d do the same for my #GardenGoals…

When we moved in, our garden was just a big square of mud as it was a new build house and we decided to have a go at laying our own turf rather than pay the builders extortionate cost.   This is what it looked like for a good five months after we moved in as we were waiting for Spring to come around before we got started.

We Googled how to lay the turf, hired everything we needed and eventually ended up with a semi-flat lawn which was closely followed by actual fences.

As you can imagine, with two young children, our garden was filled with everything from a giant trampoline to a swing ball set and from playhouses to abandoned water guns and that’s pretty much how it stayed until last year when we got rid of the trampoline and added a little veg patch in the corner.

Last Summer we didn’t spend nearly as much time in the garden as we usually do – the kids are off doing other things with their friends more often than not and we started to take the dog to the beach on a night with a frisbee or a football to play with there instead of the garden.

This means that our garden isn’t the playground it used to be so my goal for this year is to do more with it to make it more of a useful space…

Expand our vegetable patch

Honestly, I do not have a green finger but I really want to get better.  This was Miss Frugal building our little raised bed veg patch so that should give you an idea of how small it is – I want to make the area larger and research what will grow best.

This was our best attempt at carrot growing last year so there’s definitely room for improvement!

Add some Flowers

For someone who loves fresh flowers, I don’t have a single flower in my garden – mainly because over the years, every hanging basket, border, or Plant pot that I’ve ever attempted to grow flowers in has been attacked – usually by a football!  I want to get some hanging baskets out there and some big plant pots filled with pretty flowers.

Make a pretty herb garden

I love fresh herbs and often use them in cooking so this year, I really would like to try and make a bit of a herb garden.  We’ve had one before but it was just a jumble of plants in a long thin plant pot…

(check out the basket of footballs by the way)

Pinterest has a lot to answer for on this one as I have a great idea for a really pretty set up for my little herb garden inspired by something I’ve seen on there so that’s something I’m going to do quite soon I hope.

Make an eco-corner

I thought it would be a nice idea to set up a bit of an eco-corner where I would pop a water butt and possibly a compost bin. I love the idea of a water butt especially so I can water my indoor plants and the outdoor ones too when it’s dry out. And on the subject of eco-friendly things – this little eco pot maker is high up on my gardening wish list!

A Garden Office?

This is something that I was determined to do this year because I really do need more space for everything blogging related.  We were going to wait until Spring until we sorted it though and now that we’re getting closer, I’m having a few doubts.  I still need the space but I’m hovering between a Garden Office and a basic garage conversion.  The garden office is much cheaper on the face of it but by the time I get all the insulation and electricity installed then I think the costs will be similar to the garage conversion so I’m a bit torn right now.
