Slow cookers are awesome, they really are!
This last couple of weeks have been a bit of a nightmare for me as I’ve been working longer hours than normal as well as not feeling 100% thanks to a seemingly never ending cold but thanks to my slow cooker, I’ve been able to serve up meals that are so delicious that you’d think I’d been slaving away in the kitchen all day*.
(* This may be a slight exaggeration but they’ve definitely been tasty ;-))
We’ve had the usual food you would think of when you think of a typical meal you would cook in the slow cooker – curry, chilli, casserole and stew and it’s been used to make my homemade tomato sauce which we’ve used loads but that’s not all we’ve used it for.
Slow cooker jacket potatoes are delicious and so soft – you might prefer to finish them off in the oven but I like them just as they are!
You can use it to make cakes and these slow cooker hot chocolate cakes are delicious as well as being super easy!
My slow cooker mushroom risotto is an easy way to enjoy a notoriously complicated dish to make.
One of my favourite recipes ever is homemade doner kebab done in the slow cooker.
Slow cooker frittata is my favourite way to use up leftovers!
For a lovely warming pudding, you could try our homemade rice pudding which is delicious with a splodge of jam!
Soups are another great thing to make in your slow cooker and any of my recent recipes for the soup maker can easily be made in the slow cooker too just by cooking on low until it’s ready to be blended to whatever consistency you want.
There’s so much more that I want to try though, I want to try Aly’s slow cooker lemon curd and this recipe from Kidspot for slow cooker chocolate fudge is definitely on my need to make list.
