Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {1st September 2017}….

1) Last Friday, Mr Frugal finally got round to painting my kitchen!  We went with white, which is pretty much my plan for the whole house at the moment.  We have stacks of white paint in the garage as I bought it on offer a while ago when I decided that the goal was a white walled house – we’re going room by room though and doing it gradually as we’re not fans of painting!

Rather than buying new accessories, I decided to update the things we already had with a can of copper spray paint:

I spray painted the clock, a vase, a money box, some tin cans and even the bin (stay tuned for a tin can upcycle post and a bin makeover post coming up soon) but the copper paint is a bit brighter than I was after so I’m not 100% sure that I’m going to keep it all.  My friend has asked if she can have it if I don’t want it though as she’s just bought a new kettle that matches it perfectly. – she’s offered to swap her garden bench for them all so that could be a good deal for me if I do decide to change it up.

2) I renewed my British Gas Homecover policy which covers any boiler or heating breakdowns.  The premium has gone up by about a pound a month this year but it’s the best money we’ve ever spent as you’ll know if your boiler ever breaks down on a Friday night (mine has) or on Christmas morning (again, mine has).  We’ve had people quote ridiculous prices in the past whereas on the couple of occasions where we’ve needed to call out British Gas they’ve been out to us ASAP with no charge and no issues.  This is one thing that I could probably get cheaper but at £16 a month, the service has been so good that I wouldn’t even bother shopping around for the few pounds I could save.

3)  I bought some lovely flowers reduced from £5 to 97p.

I love fresh flowers and even though roses aren’t my favourite, they look great in my new homemade vase!

4) I mentioned to one of my friends that one of my resolutions for this year was to learn to do fancy hand lettering.  I said I hadn’t made any progress on it because I didn’t want to buy all the fancy pens in case I wasn’t any good at it – I know, a bit of a cop out but I have a history of getting an idea into my head, buying everything I could possibly need and then not enjoying it as much as I thought I would.  Anyway, she the next day she gave me two italic marker pens that she’d found at home so I can have a go before deciding whether I need to buy anything else.  How nice is that?

5) I’ve managed to stick to my meal plan really well this week which is an achievement considering I’ve been off work and all over the place with the kids.  We also had a baking afternoon and made some lovely treats using things we already had in the house!

As always, we’ve had plenty of interesting money saving conversations over in our Facebook group, Spend Less Live Better – we’ve talked about everything from free days out to decluttering with a few bargain finds thrown in there too.  Come over and join us and join in the conversations!

As always, we’d love you to join in with us by sharing what frugal and thrifty things you’ve been up to this week – whether it’s an Instagram picture (#5frugalthings), a blog post or even a video.  Just add your link to the linky at the bottom of this post.

You don’t have to share five things you’ve done, anything thrifty or frugal that you’ve been doing is perfect.

You’re more than welcome to copy and paste the badge above but it would be even better if you could let your readers know that you’re linking up with us by adding a little line to the bottom of your post like this one:
