I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before but Miss Frugal is a Pinterest and YouTube fiend! She loves to find DIY ideas for us to try out at home and although some of them turn out to be total fails, some turn out really well and we end up doing them again.
This thrifty avocado and banana Hair mask started out as one of her Pinterest finds and is now something we make regularly although we only ever make it with avocados that we find reduced as it wouldn’t be too thrifty if we used a full price avocado! We also try and use the most battered looking banana in the fruit bowl too although I admit that I used a nice looking one today as I was taking a photo of it.
Before I tell you how we make our avocado and Banana Hair Mask, I’m going to tell you why the two go together so well to make a hair mask that will make your hair look amazing.
Avocado is amazing for your hair, especially dry hair because of it’s very high monounsaturated fatty acid content in avocado oil. When avocado is applied directly to your hair in a hair mask, monounsaturated fats can moisturise, nourish and strengthen your hair strands.
Banana is great for your hair too as it’s a great natural moisturiser. The Vitamin A present in banana restores lost moisture and helps repair the damaged, dull and dry hair.
The final ingredient in our avocado and banana hair mask is coconut oil which is another thing we’ve included because of the amazing benefits to your hair. For starters, it’s a natural way to help your hair grow longer, thicker, and faster. And as if that wasn’t enough the vitamins and other ingredients naturally found in coconut oil will nourish your scalp and help to remove build up from your hair follicles.
There are lots of people who would add honey to this too but we’re not a fan of that so we keep our simple with just three killer ingredients.
All you need to do is mash one avocado with one banana and add about two tablespoons of coconut oil.
Apply the hair mask to damp hair before shampooing and leave on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing out and shampooing as normal.
It looks awful and feels slimy but it works!
I couldn’t take a picture of it on Miss Frugal’s hair as I’m not sharing a photo of her in the shower and she sleeps with her hair in plaits usually so she has curly hair the next day so you can’t even see how glossy and healthy this makes her hair look. I did manage this photo this morning though while I was still in bed before they went to school.
Not a great example as it’s a mass of waves but hopefully you can try it for yourself and be amazed at the way your hair looks.
