Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {27 January 2017}….

1) Last weekend the kids (and us if I’m honest) really fancied a cheeky takeaway but we managed to resist the temptation by making homemade pizza. 😉

homemade pizza

I’m sure I’ve shared my recipe for pizza dough before but it’s basically 500g bread flour, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 300ml warm water and 7g dried yeast.  We’ve always made this by hand before but I’ve been making it in the breadmaker since I got that for Christmas and it’s just as nice.  The tomato base is my Homemade Tomato Sauce but I blend it down some more for pizza sauce when I’m making it for the kids as they’re not keen on the lumps.

2) Speaking of my homemade tomato sauce, I made a batch this week to replenish my freezer stocks which have been getting used up quicker than usual lately because we’ve had it with all sorts.  In the last couple of weeks it’s been used as pizza topping, as a base for a pasta sauce twice, as a topping for chicken parmesan casserole and as a topping for jacket potatoes with cheese for lunch one day.

It’s all portioned up into different sized portions ready to be used for our meals.

3) Did you see my post yesterday? I made a batch of my homemade cleaning spray which cost next to nothing, smells amazing and is much better for us than the cleaning sprays you buy at the supermarket.

4) I’ve now been back at work for a couple of weeks after a few months off and I’ve noticed an increase in our monthly spend on petrol (I do a 24 mile round trip every day) and even though it’s only gone back up to what it was before, I notice it more now as we haven’t been paying it for the last few months.  It’s made me realise that we got quite reliant on our cars when I was unwell as I didn’t have much energy to walk anywhere and we’re still in that habit even though I’m feeling a lot better.  This week we’ve tried to cut out those small journeys where we could walk instead and although it’s not going to make a huge difference to our petrol spend, it’s something.  And we get to enjoy some fresh air too!

5) I’ve just cut Miss Frugal’s phone package down with Giffgaff as she wasn’t using anywhere near the data allowance that we were paying for.  We were paying £20 a month for unlimited data but she was only using just over 2GB a month since she switched to Giffgaff so we took it down to the package below for her.  It’s really odd but when she was on EE she was going over her 4GB in no time at all but now she’s on Giffgaff doing nothing different, she uses so much less data!

As always, we’d love you to join in with us by sharing what frugal and thrifty things you’ve been up to this week – whether it’s an Instagram picture (#5frugalthings), a blog post or even a video.  Just add your link to the linky at the bottom of this post.

You don’t have to share five things you’ve done, anything thrifty or frugal that you’ve been doing is perfect.

You’re more than welcome to copy and paste the badge above but it would be even better if you could let your readers know that you’re linking up with us by adding a little line to the bottom of your post like this one:
