Retin-A 0.1 Cream and Gel for Anti- Ageing Skin Care Over 40

I have been using retin-a 0.1 percent strength for almost a year now. I have been using 0.05 for two years.

I use 0.1 % everywhere apart from under my eyes where I use my 0.05%. I do this because the Skin under our eyes is extremely delicate and should be treated with care. I always apply a hydrating cream before applying retin-a under my eyes. I have naturally dry skin so I have to be very cautious when it comes using any skin care product that dries it out even more.

Things to Think About Before Using 0.1 Tretinoin

It’s incredibly important to consider your skin before you start using any strength of retin-a. If your skin is easily irritated or super-sensitive it may not be the best anti-aging skin care product for you. However, if you don’t suffer any of these effects then from my own experience I can tell you that the improvement to your skin over a year long period will be very noticeable.

0.1% is as tough as it gets. You shouldn’t start at that percentage. Start low and build up your tolerance levels first. I’d say at least two months on 0.025% and then move to 0.05% for a further three to four months. To be perfectly honest with you however, you might even consider sticking with your 0.05% as I don’t think there is a whole lot of difference in the effect you get over time. This is just my opinion of course. Opinions will vary from user to user.

Contraindications

You should never use retin-a if you are pregnant or breast feeding. This is an absolute. There is no grey area here.

The Official Line on Retin-A Use

A brief sensation of warmth or stinging may occur immediately after applying the medication. Skin redness, dryness, itching, scaling, mild burning, or worsening of acne may occur during the first 2-4 weeks of using the medication. These effects usually decrease with continued use.

When using 0.1% gel or cream you should use a ton of moisturiser and drink lots and lots of water to keep your skin hydrated. Moisturise your skin before and after retin-a 0.1%. Contrary to popular belief this will not dilute the formula. It will however, allow your skin to cope a little better.
