I download a lot of shows, movies, music and games, hence I always run out of storage space really fast. So it's not surprising that I need to get another external hard drive.
I know there are many big names out there, but they're usually more pricey, so I decided to take a risk and get something less popular. I was looking at the price tag mainly when I was shopping for the hard drive. This hard drive happens to be one of the cheapest, costing SG$59 (including shipment). This is a lot cheaper than those I see selling in local stores.
1 x 1TB Hard drive
1x USB3.0 to Micro-B cable
1 x Hard cover case (free gift)
It is quite obvious from the packaging design that it's trying to copy the Seagate Backup Plus Slim series.
Even the design of the hard drive is very similar to the Seagate one. This makes it feels a little like a "cheap knock-off" even though the built and finish of the casing is very good. The metal casing is smooth and solid and the design at the back plastic casing is nice too.
The hard cover case is of good quality and is good to hold. I really love it.
The drive is plug and play, there is no installation needed. The drive is formatted to NTFS by default, you can request for a different format. (Just contact the seller)
The actually storage space on the drive is actually 931GB. I've tested it with H2testw, the storage capacity tallies and it has a writing speed of 76.9Mb/s and a reading speed of 78.7Mb/s.
The hard drive gets hot pretty fast and its temperature seems to go higher than my WD Elements hard drive with same amount of use. But this could be due to the metal casing.
I've since moved some backups into this new drive and the transfer is very fast. A 320MB video transferred in just a blink of the eye.
The Kesu Backup Plus Slim combines design with quality and suits my needs for a external hard drive. I'm happy with how it works.
Overall score: 4/5
