Airforce Chief: Don’t Dent Our Image

JUNIOR officers and soldiers have been admonished to desist from actions that could bring the military to disrepute.

Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Logistics Command Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Ibrahim Yahaya spoke at the Navy’s ceremonial sunset and lowering of ensigns at the weekend.

Yahaya, the special guest at the ceremony on the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) QUORRA Parade Ground, Apapa, urged the personnel to protect civilians.

He praised the inter-agency collaboration, noting that it has improved security in the state.

Yahaya said: “The cooperation between the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force and other paramilitary agencies have been quite impressive. I will enjoin you to keep it up and I will particularly appeal to junior officers and ratings to be above board and not do anything that will tarnish the good image of the services.

“I urge you to protect the good people of Lagos and adjoining states where your other units are located.”

He commended the untiring efforts of the Navy in the reduction of illegal bunkering, oil theft and piracy in the maritime domain.

“It is also gratifying to note your commitments to the internal security duties in the hinterland and the adjoining waterways which has helped in no small measure to abate the rate of criminality in these areas.

“The doggedness of your officers and ratings in synergy with other services and agencies has contributed to an atmosphere that is conducive for legitimate activities across the country,” he said.

Earlier, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) Rear Admiral Obi Ofodile said that the ceremony was important to navies across the world and symbolised the end of activities for the year.
